Brad Klibansky is a 23-year old mad footy head and a Hawthorn fanatic who began writing for FootyHeads in 2006. Brad is building an impressive stable of work both with footy and with other sports journalism roles. Brad currently produces “Off the Bench”, a radio footy show hosted by FootyHeads’ own Craig Hutchison and former Geelong player Liam Pickering. “Off the Bench” is broadcast through regional Victoria, Southern NSW and West Australia on Saturday Mornings from 8am-12pm. It can be heard on SEN 1116am (9am-11am), the ACE Radio Network (10am-12pm) and Radio West (8am-10am).
Mark Opolion is already a published author having released his first book in 2006. The book titled: ‘A Decade of Pride - The history of the Brisbane Lions’ (Pennon Publishing). It’s 328 pages and is available from Melbourne Sports Books, Borders book shops, The Brisbane Lions Football Club (the Club’s Brisbane and Melbourne shops) and various others for $40. The book provides a fascinating look into all of the Brisbane Lions’ on-field and off-field developments en route to claiming an amazing three consecutive premierships. Mark knows footy from the inside and out and brings a wealth of experience to the team at FootyHeads.
Shane Potter is fast gaining a reputation as a sporting all-rounder working as a presenter, producer, panel operator, reporter and stats man amongst various other roles over his short sports media career. Shane has worked with SEN 1116, Fox Footy Channel, ESPN and Australian Open Radio. For FootyHeads he is a weekday and weekend reporter. Shane currently produces Sunday AFL and the Cricket coverage on SEN 1116 and is also a Melbourne Correspondent for New Zealand radio station BSport on the morning program with Timothy Giles. Like the others in the FootyHeads team, Shane is building towards a full-time career in the sports media industry and is keen kick-starting his writing career here at FootyHeads.
Justin Kremmer is an enthusiastic young football writer and loves nothing more than the atmosphere of any game at the MCG. Justin has experience at Melbourne radio stations SEN 1116 and 3AW on the Sports Today program. He writes for his beloved Cats’ unofficial fans-based website, The Cattery (TheCattery.com.au) and has been involved with FootyHeads since the start of 2007, the same year he completed VCE. His passion for and knowledge of footy is clearly evident in everything he writes. Justin was delighted to witness Geelong break a 44-year premiership drought last season in the stands of the MCG. He rates Matthew Scarlett, Gary Ablett, Chris Judd and Jonathan Brown as his favourite players. Justin is currently undertaking a Public Relations course and delivers the latest AFL news on FootyHeads.
Trevor Byers has settled in with ease since joining FootyHeads in January 2008, after he was first spotted for his uncanny ability to impersonate some of football’s most renowned media identities. Trevor, 20, completed VCE in 2005 and has a desire to pursue a footy media career. He feels writing for FootyHeads will give him experience and the required skills for that kind of work. Trevor hails from North East Victoria, in Benalla, and is a massive Collingwood supporter. He describes himself as unique with a love for all sports and not only does he bring a great deal of knowledge of AFL to the site, but unmatched entertainment. His hilarious videos can be watched on FanSpot Videos which feature impersonations of Sam Newman, Bruce McAvaney and Dennis Cometti to name a few.
Eric Fransella has been a footy fan since he can remember. A keen supporter of the Essendon Football Club whose favourite player was James Hird, Eric hopes to one day see the Bombers return to the top of the ladder. After three years attending the University of Sydney where he completed an Arts degree and working with Fox Sports, Eric is now happy to be living in his home town, Melbourne and reporting AFL for FootyHeads. He is currently studying a Masters of Media and Communications and aspires to be a sports presenter on television. Eric brings an excellent knowledge of all sports however knows his football codes back to front. He is thought provoking and enjoys celebrating the positive aspects of the AFL.
Andrew Lowther is a 32-year-old journalism student from Bendigo in Central Victoria. A hard-working football reporter and proud FootyHead, Andrew has been welcomed by the site since starting in February 2008. He works part-time as a radio presenter in his home town covering sports news, including AFL and local footy. Like his colleagues at FootyHeads, Andrew is keen to pursue a career in sports journalism and is thoroughly enjoying his time as part of the FootyHeads team. Each Friday FootyHeads can look forward to Andrew’s handy hints and helpful advice in the Sportsbet’s Value Bet of the Week, where he and Steve Baker choose their best bet based on value for the round.
Alana Lakeland is an asset to FootyHeads as she is the only current female writer for the site. She brings a strong passion for all sports and is renowned for her gift of the gab. Alana is completing a journalism degree and has undertaken specialist units in sports writing. She loves the tradition of a Saturday afternoon match at the MCG and regales in the culture of Australian rules. Alana lists her favourite match of all time as the 1989 grand final between Hawthorn and Geelong, which she marvels for the hard-hitting determination of the champions of yesteryear. After a number of years living abroad Alana is adept at explaining our great game to novices around the world. She is excited to bring the latest news to FootyHeads in her inaugral role in sports journalism.
Frank Ienco began writing for FootyHeads in 2007 and is the site’s Sydney-based reporter. Born and bred in ‘Sin City’, he also spends his time in Bathurst in regional NSW, where he is completing a sports journalism degree. Aside from spending the past five years on community radio across the state, Frank has spread his wings in the sports journalism field, and can be heard on radio covering match days for Sydney Swans’ home games to calling rugby league Grand Finals. As well as providing up-to-date AFL news on FootyHeads in 2008, Frank is a news reader and journalist nationally-syndicated National Radio News, a reporter for ABC News Radio in Sydney and provides statistics on weekends for Fox Sports News.
Steve Baker’s by-line has appeared on FootyHeads since 2007. In recent times he has worked at Sport927, freelanced for the finance and investment magazine; “The Eureka Report” and is part of “The People’s Court” sports show on community radio station 88.3 Southern FM. Although an Essendon man at heart, Steve rates last year’s Geelong premiership win as one of his favourite sporting moments. Apart from AFL, he is a keen F1, English Premier League and NFL fan. Steve hopes to become one of Australia’s leading writers. Despite there being no photo of Steve, he is quick to make note to all of you that he does not wear the No. 10 for St Kilda.
