CAREY’S MIAMI CHARGES REVEALED
BY JUSTIN KREMMER
FORMER Kangaroos champion Wayne Carey could face jail time in the US if found guilty over serious charges against his girlfriend and Miami police.
The news follows a scuffle between Carey and his partner Kate Neilson on Sunday at his Port Melbourne apartment, but these latest charges in Miami are from a holiday in October last year.
It is alleged Neilson told police the former AFL great smashed a wine glass on her face, resulting in cuts to her mouth and neck. It is not the first time Neilson has concerned the public of her boyfriend’s violence. She told police she was assaulted in December 2006 but later denied the claim.
Carey, 36, faces third-degree felony charges, with the penalties including up to five years behind bars, five years’ probation and a fine of $5,000 US dollars. He is due to face the Miami-Dade County Court on February 15.
Footyheads, what would it mean to Australian sport in general if the greatest North Melbourne player and arguably best player of the 90’s decade was imprisoned in the US?
