AFL Legend Wayne Carey has been arrested after allegedly assaulting Police officers at his Port Melbourne home overnight.

Police information said that Carey called police to his apartment which he shares with his girlfriend Kate Neilson at just after 8pm last night.

Carey allegedly wanted Ms Neilson removed from his apartment, but after five police officers arrived at his home, he refused to let them inside. 

Carey then allegedly assaulted Police when they attempted to enter his apartment and also resisted arrest.

Police also used capsicum spray to subdue Carey before taking him to St Kilda police station at around 8:30pm.

Carey was released by Police at 10:30pm.
